In the end, Tekken 8 will undoubtedly impress fans, but it didn’t captivate me as much as Mortal Kombat 1 and Street Fighter 6. It’s foolish to argue that there’s a genuine celebration here for all senses and plenty to engage with… But if, like me, Tekken hasn’t left a lasting impression despite years of acquaintance on various platforms, Tekken 8 is unlikely to change that.

Whether you’ve played Tekken for years, are returning after a long hiatus, or have never touched the series before, Tekken 8 is a game you must play. It’s a perfect warm embrace of nostalgia for longtime fans. And for fighting game novices, there’s a lot to enjoy, keeping the entry barrier accessible. It’s a grand, rich game that is immensely fun to play. I can’t wait to dive back into it.

Tekken 8 is a modern masterclass in fighting games. It doesn’t skimp on single-player modes, it’s rich in online features, and it looks excellent. But, most importantly, the battles are brilliant: accessible yet with technical depth; being part of them is a pleasure (perhaps even more than before). There’s no fighting game series quite like Tekken, and Tekken 8 is a fantastic peak for the franchise.

I’ll never be able to master everything Tekken 8 offers. I could play it every day for a whole year and still be learning something new. The more you learn, the more you realize how much more there is to discover. It’s an exhilarating feeling.
Tekken 8 has finally stopped to teach me everything, and now I have to endure each of my Tekken-fan friends because they’ll forever be saying, ‘We told you so!’ I finally understood the charm. All because the developers added meaningful tutorials, encouraging pats on the back, and guided me on a path where I could figure out everything else myself.
PC Gamer’s author also mentions that on his PC (Ryzen 7 2700X and RTX 3070), Tekken 8 maintained a stable 60 frames per second on ultra settings. Occasional hiccups occurred only during introductory animations, not during gameplay. The game also ran flawlessly on the Steam Deck. Eurogamer’s reviewer also wrote about the “practically flawless” performance on PC.
Tekken 8 is set to release on January 26 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. A demo version is already available on all platforms.
